I've been out since '90 although I started attending meetings and was nearly reinstated in ''97 and still defend them in discussions when people are coming out with the normal misconstrued BS. I don't talk about that long period of my life now except occasionally on discussion boards like this one

Not giving the org a bad name
by seattleniceguy ini've been out of the org in mind for three months (formally for only two weeks) but i find that i often feel that old familiar impulse to supress myself if i start to say something that could be construed as negative to the organizaton.
do you still feel that?
like, i might hesitate to tell my neighbor that i didn't associate with my dad for six years because of the df/da policy.

I remember about 10 years ago there was a case of a 9 year old giving birth in south america, somewhere like Peru or Bolivia, it was all over the papers here as she had got pregnant at 8. Following the story afterwards they reported that her body aged really badly as her developing body had been screwed up by the pregnancy.

Which is worse: Going in Service or Having a Meeting on a Holiday?
by Room 215 in.
i used to dread the prospect of having an evening meeting to to go hanging over my head all day long on a major holiday, almost as much as being compelled to ``go out in service.".
how about you?

Are you a blood donor?
by nicolaou inso many of us on this forum have criticised the watchtower society for their obscene blood transfusion/fractions policies.
quite right too.. it begs the question though; what are you doing about blood now that you have a more tolerant and informed perspective?
it's a rhetorical question.

I'm a blood donor and would certainly have a blood transfusion should I need it. If I can help save someone's life in the here and now I sure as hell will. I pity the poor saps who think that leading a miserable life now will get you a better existance in the hereafter

Ian Huntley - GUILTY verdict returned.
by nicolaou inthis represented a change in his previous instructions to the jury that they should return a unanimous verdict.
it seems that perhaps 1 or 2 jurors were refusing to accede to the majority view and so this new instruction was intended to overcome this 'obstacle' in the interests of achieving a verdict.
it didn't take long.

no he wasn't, just a sick and twisted SOB who murdered two ten year old girls and disposed of the bodies. His story was that they were in his bathroom as one had a nosebleed and one banged their head on the bath and died. The second died as he strangled her trying to shut up her screaming, obviously an accident.

If I had my way, Saddam would still be in power
by lastcall inare we beginning to see that the argument of wether or not we should have gone to war is starting to get a little circular.. there are points to be made on both sides.
in my mind it comes down to wether or not you think that the us should be the policeman for the rest of the world.. i personally still don't think we needed to go to war, even though we did capture saddam, i know, i know, hard to believe.. just think, if i had my way, saddam would still be in power!!!!

Saddam was an extremist, Einstein... gesh, what part of gas bombing Kurds and mass graves don't you understand?
He's was killing his own people, so why aren't we using that as an excuse to invade Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast or Liberia? Is it because they are black or because they are poor?
If we hold the freedoms we have in the West in any way valuable, we have to regard them as being important to other people too. If the West continues to explicitly or implictly deny the developing world the freedoms and opportunities people in the the West have, then those dictators and despots responsible for denying people those rights, any Western policies which contribute to the denial of those rights, will have reprecussion that will STILL effect the West..
I'm sorry but that's absolute arrogance. You think democracy is great so it must be the ONLY way people should be governed and live? The US government has used the patriot act to remove many of the democratic freedoms it so loudly praises, do you think we in Europe should invade and show you how it should be done?
Oppressing the people in Africa through restrictive trade practices is wrong and is adding to the gap between poor and rich nations and you are right, we should stop it and give these poor people the chance to make a decent living. The Common Agricultural Policy in Europe, and the agricultural subsidies the US gives to it's farmers keep many farmers in developing countries poor and unable to compete. If they were given the chance to compete on a level playing field then they would have the chance to make a decent living and would not be so indebted to the west. That doesn't mean we have the perogative or the right to invade whoever the hell we like and effect 'Regime Change'. The ultimate irony and intense hypocracy lies in the fact that the US made Saddam the leader he was and gave him finance and weapons to carry out his rule and his oppression - because it fitted in with US foreign policy.

I am so glad this animal is going away for life, the cock and bull story he told was incredible.
It doesn't bring the girls back though, I feel for their families

The last several months have amazed me, first we were under a 'clear and present threat' of imminent danger from the mustachioed one, then he was the devil incarnate, and most cunningly the pantagon and the whitehouse managed to bullshit the American people into believing that Saddam had something to do with the twin towers attacks.
There are many incidental facts that can be used to form your opinion of why Bush went to war, but at the end of the day that's all they are - opinions. Personally I believe that he went to war for a number of reasons - economic (oil and arms and rebuilding contracts), to make an object lesson of a weak power so that Korea would step into line, political - to make him look like a strong war leader to win votes in the next election and ward off the criticisms of his lack of domestic policies and also to send a powerful message through the middle east. The last point is rather scary, looking at some of the New World Order stuff that people around Bush have published they make it clear that they believe that forcing democracy on the middle east is a positive thing whether they like it or not. I see more wars and alot more bloodshed.
As for the world being a safer place now that Saddam is out of power - wake up and smell the coffee. Saddam was obviously a bit of a turd but he kept the extremists in his country in check, what we have done now is allow hardline muslims to step into the power vacuum and Iraq has become a magnet for terrorists and anyone with an AK47. We've taken an oppressed but stable country and turned it into a haven for terrorists, and the ongoing war in Afghanistan is still rumbling on. If being a totalitarian dictator wh kills your people were reason enough for us to invade then why isn't anything being done in Zimbabwe? Is it because they don't have oil?

I took a great deal of pleasure in returning a whole box of books to an elder the day I was DF'd although I'm certain that some of mine ended up as pretty useful air rifle targets
